Fun Filled Offline Summer Camp in Chennai

Posted by My Chapter One on 07.05.2022

MY CHAPTER ONE is conducting an Offline Summer Camp in CHENNAI.

This Offline Summer Camp by My Chapter One will not just be at one but two different venues: Anna Nagar and Besant Nagar. So, the people living in Chennai can choose the venue as per their convenience of travel, time, etc.

Yes!! You read that right! OFFLINE! Wow….. sounds like a breath of fresh air after 2 years of almost everything being online for kids as well as adults – be it birthday parties, school, summer camps, hobby classes, etc. The joy of meeting and making new friends in person, the fun of doing things together, the spring in their steps as they get ready to ‘go out’ for a Offline Summer Camp. We probably never even thought about these things as anything different or special before the pandemic. But now, all these things are so special in their own simple ways.

Offline Summer Camp

My Chapter One’s sessions, be it a summer camp, Reading gym or any other workshops and programs that we conduct -  are always thematic and structured. At the offline summer camp, children will visit 4 stations every day: READ, PLAY, CREATE, CONNECT.

  • READ: What books will be read to explore the big idea and big question
  • PLAY: Activities that explore ideas through the process of drawing, building, designing, and problem-solving
  • CREATE Activities that increase the oxygen in the brain and tap into the energy in the body
  • CONNECT: Activities that invite kids to share and collaborate with others while growing their understanding

Our selection of books, activities, and games will be around the theme for the week. Each theme that we have carefully planned and curated, is based on a Big Idea and a Big question.

The Big idea is ‘what’ the children will be engaging in for the week and the Big question is what will lead children to personal process and application. It will be a summer camp where your child will make new friends and learn about inventions and tales from around the world too! Our team of teachers will make the session fun, interactive, and equally enriching! The presentations and peer interactions will help them in building confidence and social skills. Each child will get a certificate at the end of the summer camp. Aww… the look on their faces when they get a certificate. Priceless!

Here is a brief about both the venues to help you decide better.

The Learning Community at Quest - Besant Nagar

The Learning Community at Quest is a thoughtfully built space with 3 floors and 6 rooms. It has a semi-open gallery, movie room, and multi-functional activity rooms which makes it the perfect environment for interest-based learning.

My Chapter One will be conducting a 2-week – 2.5 hours per day summer camp at Quest from May 9 -13 & May 16-20.

There will be a different theme each week: Little inventors and Fables & tales. The children will be reading 5 new books per week along with games and hands-on activities.

The Little Inventors theme’s Big idea is all about the little ingenious inventions that we are surrounded with. Things like the inventors of fireworks, the band-aid, and popsicles give the inspiration to look around and apply thinking to build things.

The big question here being ‘how do they fix a problem that they can see?’They will work on small, fascinating experiments and plan out an invention of their own!  It will a session full of learning and discovery and lots of fun!

The big idea in the  2nd week is that Fables and Tales of a culture are the best way to learn about people and what do the fables from Mexico, China, Arabia and India teach us?

The big question that will lead children to think is "What is my connection with people who are very different from me?" The children will learn about different cultures in a fun way. There will be traditional games, storytelling through traditional drawings like warli, and fables theatre too!

Here is a summary of the Offline Summer Camp details at The Learning Community at Quest.

The Sun Smart Foundation International school, Anna Nagar

Known as a ‘happy school’ located in  Anna Nagar, it comes under the aegis Vailankanni Charity Trust. They have a great outdoor space for activities as well as spacious indoors.  They have offered their premise for the Offline Summer Camp to be conducted by My Chapter One. The Offline Summer Camp will be a 5-day program for children between the age group of 6 yrs to 12 years. The duration of the camp would be 2.5 hours every day for 5 days. The selection of books, activities, and games will be around the theme for the week. Each theme is based on a Big Idea and a Big question.

The theme for this workshop is Little Inventors.  The children would be learning the invention stories of fun objects like Cotton candy, bandaids, and chopsticks - this is the Big Idea that will help them to look around and apply themselves to build things. They will also be doing exciting thematic activities and games.

The big question behind this theme is ‘how do they find a solution to a problem in front of them.  They will work on fun and exciting experiments and even plan out an invention of their own!  A session filled with learning and discovery is sure to get our little brigade to jump with joy!

There will be guided reading sessions of 5 new books each week. This is the perfect workshop to feed children’s curiosity and help them discover lesser-known details of so many day-to-day things that we use.
